Bay Window
A window that consists of three or more windows set at angles to each other in a recessed area.
Blockout Liner/Privacy Liner
An additional layer of fabric behind the Pleated shade to provide a room darkening effect, blocks out most light. Privacy Liner: An additional layer of fabric behind Pleated shades to provide opaque backing which does not completely block out the light.
Bottom Up/Top Down
The shade can be lowered from the top and raised from the bottom. Thus, the shade can be positioned anywhere in the window. Separate controls on each side of the shade control the rails independently.
Bottomrail
A rigid rail on the bottom of a blind or shade that rest on the window sill.
Casement/Casing
An in-swinging or out-swinging window. Either operated manually or with a crank. Casing The framing around a window; also referred to as frame or trim.
Cellular Shades*
A permanently pleated shade that features single or double fabric “cells” which act as insulators. Also known as a honeycomb shade.
Cut Outs
A request to cut away part of the shades to accommodate a handle, tile, frame or molding.
Double Cell*
Cellular shade which includes two cellular air pockets. The two cells offer extra insulation and light control.
Easy Up
Optional head rail system with an activated clutch system for easier operation. The clutch system allows the lift cord to be a circular cord loop and remains the same length and allows for the shade to be at the exact height desired with no cord locks.
Flush Mount
Depth of window opening allows entire shade to be mounted flush with the front of the fame.
Headrail
The metal rail at the top of a blind or shade, which also conceals lift cords.
2 On 1 Headrail/3 On 1 Headrail
2 or 3 Blinds operate independently, attached to 1 continuous headrail.
Hold-Down Bracket
An optional installation bracket that keeps the bottom of the blind from swaying; ideal on doors as well as windows exposed to the wind.
Inside Mount
Measuring/ordering term used to indicate window coverings that will be installed inside the window casing.
Ladders/ladder System
The small cords that separate and hold horizontal blind slats in place.
Louvers
The long fabric, vinyl, or aluminum components that hang vertically from a headrail on a vertical blind. Also referred to as vanes.
Insert Vertical Louvers
Vertical vane fabric that had been inserted into a groover or support backing made of PVC.
Free Hang
Vanes on a vertical blind which hang without additional
backing support, with weights attached or sewn in at the bottom of
the vane
Insert
Vertical vane fabric that has been inserted into a groover or support backing made of PVC.
Mini Blinds
Aluminum horizontal blinds with 1” wide slats.
One Touch
One Touch option offers no cords or chains and is safer for children. The wand both opens the louvers and is used to traverse the louvers.
Outside Mount
Measuring/ordering term used to indicate window coverings that will be installed outside the window casing or on a door.
Split Draw
Vertical blinds open from the center of the window and stack at opposite ends.
Sway Chain
Sway Chains connect the bottom of vertical vanes
so that they move together. Chain routed through hole in each vane on
PVC or attached to the weights on fabric free hang vanes.
